A Persian Rug, a Party, and a Homeowner Who Thought It Was Ruined

Not long ago, a homeowner in the Bella Monte community called us the morning after hosting a gathering at her house. Her Persian rug, the centerpiece of her living room, was covered in fresh food stains, and she was convinced it might never look the same again. We picked it up, brought it back to our facility, and ran it through our full hand washing process. When it went back down in her living room, you couldn't tell anything had ever happened to it. She told us she couldn't have been happier with how it turned out.

We heard a version of the same story from a homeowner in Denali, whose Oriental rug had visible beverage stains left over from a spill she'd already tried, unsuccessfully, to treat herself. At home spot cleaning often does more harm than good, sometimes setting a stain rather than lifting it. We picked the rug up, cleaned it at our facility, and got the staining out completely.

Both rugs came back looking the way their owners remembered them, not because of anything magic, but because they went to a facility built specifically for this kind of work instead of being treated in place with whatever was under the sink.

Why We Bring Every Rug Back to the Facility

A stain that looks permanent in the moment often isn't, but getting it out safely almost always requires more than surface treatment. Wine, food, and beverage stains can react unpredictably with a rug's dyes if the wrong product is used, and a rushed at-home attempt can push a stain deeper into the fiber instead of out of it. Our process starts with inspecting the rug and testing its dyes before anything gets wet, then hand washing it individually so we can control exactly how much moisture and cleaning agent it's exposed to. Everything gets rinsed, dried under controlled conditions, and inspected again before it goes back to your home, which is a very different process than anything that can happen on your living room floor.

About the Neighborhood

Mountain's Edge is built around Exploration Peak Park, the community's signature gathering spot at the base of the 2,846 foot peak the neighborhood takes its name from. Between the trails up to the summit, the western themed play areas, and the archaeology dig site that draws families out most weekends, this is a community that spends a lot of time outdoors. That means entryway and living room rugs across Mountain's Edge tend to see more regular traffic and desert dust than a quieter, less active part of the valley, on top of whatever spills or stains come from everyday life indoors.

Because so much of the community was built out fairly recently, a lot of these rugs have never actually been professionally cleaned. That's not because they don't need it. It's usually just because the question hasn't come up yet.

Mountain's Edge spans roughly 3,500 acres and is made up of more than 70 distinct neighborhoods, Bella Monte and Denali among them, all connected by close to 700 acres of parks, trails, and open green space. Beyond Exploration Peak Park, residents also have access to Mountain's Edge Regional Park, a fitness focused space with a 1.5 mile walking trail and open turf fields, along with smaller neighborhood parks scattered throughout the community. It's a rare setup for the valley, a community this size built with that much dedicated outdoor space, and it's part of why so many households here end up with rugs that see daily use rather than sitting in a formal, rarely used room.

What We Offer

We clean and repair wool, silk, viscose, Oriental and Persian rugs, and everyday synthetic blends alike, using methods matched to each rug's specific fiber and construction rather than a single generic process. That includes WoolSafe Approved wool cleaning, low moisture care for silk and viscose, dye tested handling for hand knotted antiques, pet urine and odor removal that treats the source rather than masking it, and repair work for fringe, edges, and general wear. Every rug is inspected, hand washed on its own, and dried under controlled conditions at our 5,000+ sq ft facility, never in a shared tub, and never rushed.

One Small Thing That Protects Your Rug

If your rug sits on tile, which is the case in most Mountain's Edge homes, a rug pad is worth adding if you don't already have one. It cushions foot traffic and keeps trapped grit from grinding directly against the backing every time someone walks across it, which slows down wear regardless of how often the rug gets vacuumed. It's a small addition that extends the life of a rug you've already invested in.

Can I Clean My Persian Rug With a Carpet Cleaning Machine or Steam Cleaner?

It's one of the most common questions we hear, especially from homeowners who already own a rental carpet cleaner or have one recommended by a well meaning friend. The answer is no, and it's worth understanding why. Carpet cleaning machines are built to extract water back out of carpet that's glued to a subfloor, but on a freestanding rug they tend to leave some of that water and cleaning solution behind in the foundation, which can lead to mold, bacteria, and lingering odor as it sits and dries slowly from the inside out. Steam cleaning carries its own risk, since the heat and moisture can loosen the knots and foundation fibers that hold a hand knotted Persian rug together, weakening its structure over time even if the surface looks fine afterward. Neither method is a shortcut worth taking on a rug like this. A proper cleaning fully immerses, rinses, and dries the rug under controlled conditions, which a rental machine or steam attachment was simply never designed to do.
